Bishnupur, located at a distance of around 140kms from Kolkata is one of the best weekend getaways from Kolkata. Rich in History, with its Terracotta temples, the place is a vibrant showcase of culture and history.

We took train from Bangalore to Goa (Vasco). Went straight to Candolim beach Marquis Beach Resort. The stretch of beach in front of the resort was quite clean and had very sparse crowd. It felt almost like a private beach. However, it was not yet season in Goa. So crowd was anyways less.

We had taken a bus which dropped us near a stop called Indira Gandhi Statue. From there we took a couple of autos to our homestay. This homestay was just opposite Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium.

We were in Kandy for 3 nights.
It was around 8pm, by the time we collected luggage and found ourselves walking towards the exit of Bandarnaike International Airport.
130 kms drive to see a temple? Not worth it, I had said. I stood corrected and humbled by the magnificent architecture.
Haridwar is one of the holiest places for Hindu religion. Situated beside Holy Ganges river, thousands of Hindus visit this place for praying and taking a holy dip in Ganges.
Hampi, in North Karnataka, around 350kms from Bangalore, presents an awesome cocktail of rivers, hills, heritage and awesome food which is irresistible to a traveller.

Located in the outskirts of Mysore, this is a nice getaway if you are in Mysore. Or if you are going somewhere via Mysore, it’s worth a stop for a couple of hours.
Bangalore to Kozhikode is about 380kms. The route was – Mysore>Gudlepet>Sultan Bathery>Kalpetta>Vythiri>Kozhikode.
We were to stay in a beachfront homestay called Liberty House in Kappad Beach, Kozhikode.
Wayanad, a district in Kerala, has one of the least population and one of the most picturesque landscape. We had a long weekend during Diwali 2017 and were looking for someplace where we could relax, at the same time there would be enough to explore. Wayanad seemed an ideal choice.
Conoor: Another quaint hill station around 320 km from Bangalore. We were looking for a quick weekend getaway and chose Coonoor, a sort of not so touristy, yet beautiful hill station. Coonoor is hardly 20 km away from the more better known and hence commercial hill station, Ooty.
It was Feb 2017. My parents were here in Bangalore for a visit and I was looking for a venue for a weekend outing.
Bali has a bit of everything. On one hand you have beautiful beaches, on the other hand you have majestic mountains and beautiful temples! Here’s an account of
- The beaches we visited (other than Sanur, our base camp): Dreamland, Padang Padang, Uluwatu, Seminyak, Kuta.
- Temples: Tanha Lot, Pura Besakih, Uluwatu, Pura Ulun Danu Bratan
Bali has many awesome beaches. When it came to choosing our base location, from where we’ll travel to other places, we were faced with quite a conundrum. After considering all factors we chose Sanur Beach.
It was already evening, when we reached Aswan. We were booked at Hotel Helnan Aswan. The hotel was magnificently placed beside the River Nile, and we had a magnificent view from the room.
Cairo is a busy, bustling city with ages of history behind it. We spent a total of around 2 and half days in Cairo. One and half day spent in exploring the pyramid area, Cairo museum and a bit of main Cairo city. The other day was spent not exactly in Cairo, but in Memphis, Saqqara which are within 30-40 kms of Cairo.
“Why Egypt of all places?”, asked many when we told them of our plans to visit this country.
This was a day trip which I did from London. There are several standard tour operators in London who provides such tours. I had randomly chosen one.
