Bangalore to Kozhikode is about 380kms. The route was – Mysore>Gudlepet>Sultan Bathery>Kalpetta>Vythiri>Kozhikode.

We were to stay in a beachfront homestay called Liberty House in Kappad Beach, Kozhikode.

We started from Bangalore around 11 and when we reached Liberty House, it was late at night. We could only pacify our beach thirsty souls with the noise of waves that night before we crashed on the bed.

Tip: The road through the ghats just after Wayanad is really bad. The turns are very sharp. Hence traffic congestion is common. So while going to Kozhikode cover this before evening. While coming back, cover this part as early in the morning as possible.

Kappad beach is a cozy, clean beach in outskirts of Kozhikode. It is historically significant as, Vasco da Gama is supposed to have landed here.

If you want to spend a quiet couple of days away from the hustle bustle of the city, then this a great place to visit.

Heading to beach

We took to the beach early morning the next day after waking up.

The only problem in Liberty House was that food is not available here. So we used to regularly head to Renaissance Kappad Beach Resort, just a short walk away.

The Sea Shore in front of Liberty House

The beach near Liberty House is small. This is, however, cleaner and attracts lesser crowd. The main Kappad beach is a bit further. This beach has cemented steps and shades which makes it more popular among locals and tourists.

If you want to venture a bit further to experience authentic Keralian cuisines, then head to the highway which is a short 5 mins drive (Panvel-Kochi-Kanyakumari highway). We had food one day in a restaurant called Zaica and another day in Gama Restuarant (which dog-friendly too).

We were left smacking our lips, enticed by the spices, and yummy fresh seafood.

For the most part of 2 days we were in Kozhikode we were in Kappad beach itself. We also got Ayurvedic messages done in Rennaissance resort (which was very very relaxing by the way).

Would definitely recommend Liberty House, if you have a dog, or otherwise if you are looking for a quiet place to just relax. If you are looking for any action, then this is not the place to be, as there is nothing around to do. Also, non-availability of food in-house can be a deal breaker for some I guess.

We though had a gala time. With Mithi, Surbhi’s kid and Mishki our dog, it was a super happening trip for us!

After a couple of days here, we headed back to Bangalore.
