Bhutan Travelogue (Part 3) – Two Beautiful Days in Punakha

Our next destination after Phobjikha Valley was Punakha. The distance was only around 80–85 kilometres, but by then we had learnt not to judge travel time in Bhutan by distance. With the winding mountain roads, even a relatively short journey could take three to four hours.

Bhutan Travelogue (Part 2) – Phobjikha Valley

Our next destination after Thimphu was Phobjikha Valley, around 130 kilometres away. On paper, 130 kilometres does not sound like a particularly long journey. In Bhutan, however, distance has to be understood differently. Almost the entire drive was through the hills, with continuous curves and some fairly steep climbs and descents.

Bhutan Travelogue (Part 1) – From Bangalore to Thimphu via Phuentsholing

Bhutan had always been one of those places I knew I would visit someday. But strangely, it had never been an aspirational destination for me. In my mind, it would probably be somewhat similar to Sikkim or the other Himalayan destinations in India. I had already been to Sikkim twice, and since Bhutan was a neighbouring country, I had always thought that that this place is going to be pretty much the same – never got the motivation to put in extra effort to plan for a Bhutan visit.
