Located in the outskirts of Mysore, this is a nice getaway if you are in Mysore. Or if you are going somewhere via Mysore, it’s worth a stop for a couple of hours.

If you are driving towards Mysore, via Bangalore Mysore Highway, you need to take a diversion after Srirangapatna, to reach this place.

The main attraction of the bird sanctuary is the backwater and small islets created on Cauvery river, due to nearby Krishnarajasagar Dam.

The park itself is quite nice. But the boat ride in the backwater is special. It is a 30 min or so ride, where they take you around a few islets. You’ll definitely see few fresh water crocodiles and lots and lots of birds.

Specially in and around winter, the place is filled with migratory birds.

If you are driving by Mysore, and need a break, this is an awesome place to press the pause button.
