After spending the first few days exploring Langkawi while staying near Kuah Town, it was time to move to the beach side of the island.

So we checked out from Dayang Bay Resort and headed towards our next stay – The Frangipani Langkawi Resort, located at Pantai Tengah.

This part of Langkawi is very different from the Kuah Town area. Kuah is quieter and more local, whereas Pantai Tengah and the nearby Pantai Cenang Beach are where most of the tourist activity happens.

We reached the resort around afternoon. By the time the check-in formalities were done and the rooms were getting ready, it was almost lunchtime.

Instead of waiting around at the reception, we headed straight to the beach.

The resort has its own stretch of beach, which feels almost like a private beach because it is much quieter compared to Pantai Cenang. My daughter immediately ran towards the sand and started playing there.

After spending some time on the beach, we went to the beachside restaurant inside the resort and had lunch there itself.

Once lunch was done and the rooms were ready, my parents decided to take some rest. Meanwhile, in the evening we headed out towards Pantai Cenang.

Evening at Pantai Cenang

Pantai Cenang is easily the most lively beach in Langkawi.

Compared to the calm atmosphere of Kuah Town, this place feels much more energetic. There are lots of hotels, restaurants, shops, and of course tourists everywhere.

We reached there just around sunset.

The sunset from the beach was beautiful. My daughter happily went back to doing what she enjoys most – playing with sand.

After sunset the place becomes even more lively.

One of the most interesting things happening on the beach are the fire shows. Performers do various acrobatics with fire sticks, flaming ropes, and other props. There are small crowds gathered around them watching the performance.

It almost feels like a beach festival every evening.

The area was quite crowded, with traffic moving slowly through the streets and people walking around everywhere.

We grabbed some food from one of the restaurants there and then headed back to the resort.

Underwater World Langkawi

The next morning we again headed towards the Pantai Cenang area.

There is a place there called Underwater World Langkawi, which is essentially a large aquarium showcasing marine life.

It is located right near Pantai Cenang and is one of the popular family attractions on the island.

To be honest, for adults it is not something extraordinary. But for kids it can be quite exciting.

My daughter absolutely loved it.

She saw penguins, various types of fish, jellyfish and many other sea creatures. There are also sections that recreate different marine ecosystems.

For her it was a great experience and she spent a lot of time just watching the different animals.

After finishing the visit we had lunch in the Pantai Cenang area.

My parents headed back to the resort afterwards to rest, while we stayed back a bit longer at the beach to enjoy the sunset once again.

Island Hopping Tour

One of the activities we had planned for the next day was the island hopping tour, which is another very popular thing to do in Langkawi.

Langkawi itself is actually an archipelago of many small islands, and this tour takes you to a few of the most scenic ones.

The typical island hopping route covers three places:

Pulau Dayang Bunting
This island is famous for the Lake of the Pregnant Maiden, a freshwater lake located right in the middle of the island. Visitors usually climb a short set of steps through the forest to reach the lake where people can swim or rent paddle boats.

Pulau Singa Besar
This island is known for eagle watching. Boats stop near the island while guides throw food into the water, attracting many eagles which swoop down dramatically to catch the food.

Pulau Beras Basah
This is usually the final stop of the tour. It has beautiful white sand beaches and clear water where tourists can relax, walk around or take a dip in the sea.

The whole island hopping experience is quite scenic. The boat rides between islands are also enjoyable because you get to see the limestone formations and turquoise waters around Langkawi.

The Final Day

Our last day in Langkawi was intentionally kept very relaxed.

We spent most of the time inside the resort itself.

By then the whole family had settled into the holiday rhythm. My daughter spent more time at the beach and the resort pool, while we simply enjoyed the slow pace of the place.

That evening we packed up for the journey back.

The next day we headed to the airport and flew back to Bangalore.

Unexpected Visitor in our room – A sea turtle…

Final Thoughts on Langkawi

Looking back, Langkawi turned out to be a perfect choice for a family trip with parents and a child.

The flight duration from Bangalore is comfortable. The island is not too large, so travelling around is easy. At the same time there are enough activities to keep you engaged for several days.

But the best part about Langkawi is that it allows you to slow down.

You can explore a few places, spend time on the beach, relax at the resort, and not feel like you are missing out on anything.

For a multi-generation trip like ours, that balance worked beautifully.

And overall, it turned out to be a very memorable first international trip for my parents.
